My neighbor, Jing Li, is a great
fan of Garfield The Cat. She draws
Garfield so well that you'd
think Jim Davis himself had taught her.
So when we decided to carve a
pumpkin for Halloween, she suggested
that we do Garfield himself.
It was a briliant idea, for Garfield is sort of
a pumpkin to begin with!
Jing drew the design and did
much of the carving. I helped. We used spoons,
knives, assorted arts tools,
and finally a Dremel drill (which we should have
started with).
Bringing our Garfield outdoors
for a look-see we found that our hands had turned
green with essence of pumpkin!
We used a low-wattage spiral
bulb to light Garfield from the inside, and at night
he attracted
trick-or-treaters, which was the original intention.
*With apologies to Jim Davis.
